What is mucormycosis or black fungus?
Mucormycosis is a fungal infection caused by the corona virus. The infection usually starts in the nose. Which slowly spreads to the eyes. Therefore, it is very important to treat the infection as soon as it occurs.

Who is most at risk?
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, corona patients have an increased risk of developing myocardial infarction only under certain conditions. Uncontrolled diabetes, weakened immune system due to steroids, prolonged ICU or hospitalization, any other disease, post transplant (organ transplant) or cancer can increase the risk of black fungus.

Symptoms of black fungus
Black fungus has many different symptoms. The main symptoms of black fungus are redness of the eyes or pain in and around the eyes, fever, headache, cough, difficulty in breathing, vomiting and consequent bleeding or changes in mental state.

How to defend?
Wear a mask in a dusty place to protect against black fungus. Wear shoes, gloves, full sleeve shirts and trousers if you come in contact with things like soil or manure. Take special care of cleanliness. Get your diabetes under control, avoid immunomodulating drugs or steroids.

Also monitor blood glucose levels after coronary healing. Use steroids only after consulting a doctor. During oxygen therapy, use only clean water for humidifier. Antibiotics or antifungal drugs should be used as needed.
What not to do

The first thing to do to protect yourself from black fungus is to ignore its symptoms. If the nose is closed, don't misunderstand that it is a disease like sinus or similar cold. Don't make such a mistake, especially in Kovid-19 and immunosuppression.

Apart from Maharashtra, cases of mucormycosis are also being found in other states. Currently, black fungus has been found in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan. This can cause severe damage to the patient's eyes, nasal bones and jaw. That is why it is important to treat on time.

Who gets this disease?

Patients who are currently diagnosed with coronary artery disease may be more likely to develop mucorrhoea if steroids have been used extensively during treatment to assess the severity of their illness. Since January 2020, 200 patients have been diagnosed with mucormycosis in Maharashtra, 100 in Gujarat and 100 in Delhi. However, this does not happen to every coronary person; Also, although steroids are given to every person with coronary heart disease, it does not happen. People who have a weakened immune system for any reason are more likely to be infected with the fungus. In diseases like diabetes, the patient's immune system is already weakened. When it is infected with coronavirus, the virus infects the immune system. The immune system of these patients is further weakened by steroids. Taking advantage of this situation, these fungal germs get a chance and the patient gets ‘mucormycosis’.
