Cape Town: Veteran South African cricketer AB de Villiers is reportedly set to return from international cricket after retiring. In the interim, Cricket South Africa has given an explanation. "Stomach muscle de Villiers has resigned and won't get back to worldwide cricket," the assertion said. 

According to the cricket board, de Villiers has been approached on the issue. De Villiers says his retirement is a final decision and will not change. That means he will not return to international cricket. 

AB De Villiers has represented South Africa in 114 Tests, 224 ODIs and 78 T20I matches. He has scored 8,765, 9,577 and 1,672 runs respectively. He has scored 22 centuries and 46 fifties in Tests. In ODI cricket, he has scored 25 centuries and 53 fifties.

AB De Villiers is currently 37 years old.  AB De Villiers had announced his retirement from international cricket in 2018. "I am leaving international cricket because of the workload," he said at the time. But after his stellar performances in T20 leagues around the world, discussions have begun about De Villiers' return to the team.

 Cricket fans are also demanding that de Villiers be recalled after the current poor performance of the South African cricket team. When the South African team was knocked out in the first round of the 2019 World Cup, it was clear that De Villiers was missing out on the South African team.

Cricket South Africa also said it would discuss his return with de Villiers. Further steps will be taken only with their consent. De Villiers had said in April 2021, after the start of the 14th season of the IPL this year, that it would be a big deal if he returned to international cricket before the T20 World Cup.India will have the T20 World Cup in October-November 2021. 


De Villiers said he would talk to South Africa head coach Mark Boucher about it. In the meantime, his form and fitness will be discussed. De Villiers' performance in the IPL shows that his batting form has not declined. He is also excellent in fielding. In IPL 2021, he was running through the same valley as before.
